Fashion
Fashion and clothing have a long tradition in Tuscany. Especially
because of the trading with fabrics, which are partly from the
orient, Lucca became rich. In Prato fabrics were weaved in mediaeval
times. Along the Arno leather tannery is a traditional craft.
The Medici family of the Palazzo Pitti used to store their large
wardrobe in the Palazzo Pitti, which today serves as an important
location for the biggest fashion events, Pitti Moda. The present
centre of fashion and designers is Florence of course – even
though Prato is still the city of fabrics. Arezzo is the undisputable
centre of goldsmiths and jewelry production.
Pucci is one of the traditional fashion companies with a great
variety of collections, fabrics (silk jersey) and design from perfumes
up to car design.
Gucci is internationally known for their leather products, purses
and accessories.
Actually Salvatore Ferragamo was not born in Florence: in the USA
he designed shoes for prominent feet and later on signed also other
fashion products and accessories.
Enrico Coveri is one of the representatives of the less classic
style. With unique creations he attracts fashion-lovers from all
over the world. Prada, located near Arezzo, is one of the stars
of fashion, designing fashion, shoes and purses.
The most famous shopping streets of Florence are the Via Tuornabuoni
and die Via della Vigna Nuova, both located in the center.
